The admonition is to always be gracious in our speech. Why can’t I learn that lesson?
Last week we had the “rock doctor” over to do some renovation on our porch. Randy is one of those “good ole boys” that takes great pride in his trade skills and is kept busy utilizing his artistic and technical abilities with mortarless masonary. We bantered back and forth about life in Clarke County when he asked me if I was from West Virginia. He new I wasn’t from Clarke County. I immediately chimed right back that of course I wasn’t from West Virginia because I still had all my teeth. Just as I said that, I glanced at his helper who was missing half of his teeth. I wished that I could have sucked those words back into my mouth. Too late! Fortunate for me, he was from Virginia and didn’t even notice my comment.
If my life is to be the gospel, I need to put a muzzle on my mouth lest I sin against a neighbor.
